- Do you have a set goal for what you want 3 months from now?
- Are you clear about what your main purpose in life is?
- Do you even know what you have to get done by the end of today?
You understand that God loves you and wants what is best for you. He has a vision for your life. Just like you have an idea of what you would like your child’s life to look like, there is a vision from God for your life. The time is now to get on the same page with God. Once you are on the same page, it’s time to make a Christian vision board.
How to Find your Vision from God for Your Life
To be successful in anything you are going to have to ask the hard questions. No matter what success looks like to you, I am going to go out on a limb and say you want to be successful. Successful people set goals and achieve them.
“You don’t have to be great to start, but you do need to start to be great.”
-Zig Ziglar
You can’t just say, “I want …” and expect it to happen. To achieve your dreams, you need to go through a clear goal-setting process. But unlike other S.M.A.R.T. goal-setting guides, this one has everything to do with your purpose and God’s plan for you.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:8-10
Setting goals do not mean that you lack trust in God’s plan for your life. When done correctly, it is quite the opposite. That is why it is so important to get on the same page with God before setting goals for yourself and your life. God has given us gifts and talents that He wants us to use to do amazing things. Having those plans laid out in front of you will help you stay focused and achieve them.
STEP 1 – PRAY
Take however long it takes, but spend some time with God. How are you going to know God’s plan for you if you don’t listen to him? I will give you a heads-up right now. God thinks the world of you. He is going to put goals in front of you that seem outlandish and unattainable. Remember, you have God on your side, all things are possible.
STEP 2 – BRAIN DUMP
Get everything out of your head and on paper. Any and every goal you might want to achieve. If having kids is a goal of yours write it done. Not married? Still, write kids down. You should also add getting married too. Get everything out of your head.
STEP 3 – PICK 3
Trying to do everything at once is the fastest way to failure. You need to have some focus. From your brain down, narrow down your goals to just 3. That is 3 goals in total.
STEP 4 – MAKE THEM SMART
To make your goal S.M.A.R.T., it needs to conform to the following criteria: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely.
- Specific- Ask yourself “What exactly do you want to achieve?” The more specific your description the better. “I want to lose weight” is a good goal. “I want to lose 10 pounds of fat” is a SMART goal.
- Measurable- This means that you identify exactly what it is you will see, hear and feel when you reach your goal. Like in the previous example, 10 pounds is more measurable than just losing weight.
- Attainable- It is time to weigh the effort, time, and other costs your goal will take against the profits and the other obligations and priorities you have in life.
- Relevant- Do you actually want to run a marathon, be bilingual, or have a third child? You decide for yourself whether you have the personality for it.
- Timely- Deadlines are what make most people switch to action. So put a time frame on your goal.
STEP 5 – CHRISTIAN VISION BOARD TIME
Print out the template you can download here. On this printout, you will find a place where you can put your 3 main goals and a Bible verse that really speaks to your goals. Under those, take some time and add some pictures of some goals that you have for each of the categories on the template. I find that seeing where you want to go achieve your main 3 goals is a much easier event. You can also watch this video I made to help you through this process.
STEP 6 – PUT IT EVERYWHERE
If you don’t see it you will forget it. Make copies of your vision board and put them everywhere. On your bathroom mirror, in your bible, on your refrigerator, or even in your car. Seeing is believing. Put your Christain Vision Board EVERYWHERE!
