Is There a Bible Diet?

There is no specific “Bible diet,” but the Bible does mention dietary guidelines such as kosher and vegetarianism. However, these guidelines are not intended as a comprehensive diet plan but rather reflect cultural and religious practices of ancient times.

Many people believe that the Bible provides guidance for what foods we should and should not eat and that following these guidances can lead to better health and well-being. So what does the Bible say about what we should eat?

Seed-Bearing Plants

The Bible encourages us to eat a diet that is rich in seed-bearing. In Genesis, God tells Adam and Eve, I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth. And every tree that has fruit with seed in it, will be yours.

For food, seed-bearing fruits should be considered as fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes, and nuts, and seeds. Seed-bearing plants are packed with essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants.

Clean & Unclean Animals

clean and unclean animals

After the flood, God told Noah everything that lives and moves about will be food for you.Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.

After Moses and the 10 Commandments, God instructed Moses about certain types of meat that are considered clean and that we should eat. In the book of Leviticus, God tells Moses, to say to the Israelites about all the animals that live.

These are the ones that you may eat. You may eat any animal that has a divided hoof and choose the cud. Animals that are not considered clean, are unclean. For example, the book of Leviticus distinctly talks about the prohibiting of consumption of pork. The pig, though it has a divided hoof, does not chew the cut.

It is unclean for you. You must not eat the meat or touch their carcass. They are unclean for you. You must remember that back then they didn’t have the medical marvels that we do because of this, pigs often carried diseases that were harmful to them.

Honey, Sweetner of the Bible

Another item that the Bible encourages us to eat is honey, which is a natural sweetener.

Proverbs tell us, eat honey, my son, for it is good. Honey from the comb is sweet for your taste. Know also that wisdom is like honey for you. If you find it, there is a future hope for you. And your hope will not be cut off.

Honey can boost immunity, improve digestion, provide energy, lower cholesterol, and promote better sleep.

Wine in the Bible

In addition, the Bible also allows the consumption of wine in moderation. Red wine has a high content of antioxidants which can help reduce the risk of heart. Lower blood pressure improves insulin sensitivity, which reduces the risk of type two diabetes. Boosts cognitive function and fights inflammation.

Proverbs says, do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat. For drunkards and gluttons become poor and drowsiness closes them in rags.

Can Christians eat Junk Food?

It is also important to note that the Bible does not condone the consumption of junk food, processed food, or excess amounts of sugar and salt. These types of foods are not mentioned in the Bible as they are not available during that time. The Bible does focus on not overeating and becoming gluttonous.

In addition, many people who follow the Bible diet also prioritize exercise and physical activity, which is another important aspect of maintaining good health.

In First Corinthians, it reads, do you not know that your bodies are temples for the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own. You are bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body.

While the Bible does not provide a strict set of dietary guidelines, it does encourage us to eat healthy and a balanced diet that is rich in whole foods and natural ingredients.
